Great experience on Perhentian Island
In the previous entries, I have shared with you some stories at Perhentian Island experienced by the traveller. Well again, in this entry I would like to share another great story on Perhentian Island. Here is what I’ve read from the website.
“Perhentian Island is so beautiful!! Arrived after a long journey from Penang by boat and then by bus. After wading through the water with our backpacks to get to the beach we checked in to our bargain cabin. When we checked in we thought the owner was winding us up when he said they were leaving the island but he didno’t mention that it was the end of Ramadan and virtually all the locals left the island. Everything was shut except one restaurant and bar and a shop during the day, so the first night we ate there surprise!!!
Day two the sun was shine and we hit the beach after about 10 minutes. I was bored so borrowed a snorkel and mask and went looking for fishes. There is loads of wildlife here, there are a couple of eagles that live on the beach plus a monitor lizard. The next day I went off on a snorkelling trip and met some very funny people. Our guide was called Razor and he took us looking for Turtles first in our little boat, as soon as he caught sight of them we had to dive in as quick as possible and go after them. They are gorgeous but quite fast so we followed them around for a little bit and then went looking for sharks!! We got to the reef where they were and went swimming. Razor came with us and after 5 minutes we found them, they were over a metre long which is not that big for a shark but it's big enough for us when I’m swimming next to them. That night we got a big table on the beach and had a few drinks and a bit of a boogie on the bar.
The next day I still hadn't got the beach bug out of my system so I decided to stay another day. The reefs here are amazing and I saw Nemo. I tried free diving down to him to say hello but he was a bit deep for me and I could only get down a few metres before running out of air. We’ve been told we could find turtles on this reef but I think they were hiding from us. Getting back on to the reef was not so easy.
