Local Climate on Perhentian Island
You might have thought of how the local climate on Perhentian is. Well, I’m very lucky to have read this article about the local climate on Perhentian Island. So here, in this entry I would like to share this information with you. This is what I’ve read from the website.
“Radical weather changes often occur between May and August. A bright sunny day will switch to cloudy skies and thunderstorms at any time. In the dry season, from April to August, low clouds and light showers normally occur in the evening or early morning. During daytime it is sunny with blue skies and puffy cirrus clouds. The air is still with mirror-like seas. July and August are considered the driest months of the year. Southeasterly trade winds across the South China Sea pick up in the dry months and could cause light swells and choppy seas during the late afternoon. Atmospheric temperatures can be as high as 35°C in July.
Sea surface temperature ranges from 28°C to 31°C all year. Climatic changes in this area are mainly influenced by regional weather in the South China Sea. A tropical storm as far away as Hong Kong, Japan and the Philippines can send high swells and waves to the beaches on Perhentian. September and October are considered the lull periods but, nevertheless, northerly or westerly winds and thunderstorms can occur in the evening. Sea conditions change from calm to light swells and vice versa in the lull periods.
Strong winds and heavy showers occur during the Northeast monsoon that takes place between November and February. At these times low cumulus clouds cover the sky and the atmosphere seems monochrome. Beaches on the east side are exposed to high waves and landing on the beach is difficult and risky. The ideal season to visit the Perhentian Islands is from March to October. There are no meteorological wonders or miracles when it comes to the weather in the Perhentian or other islands in the tropics. It’s just unpredictable. Anyway, part of the idea of being on a tropical island is to experience its climate to the fullest. Rainy days are unavoidable even in the dry season. Best is to enjoy every bit of sun and chill out when it rains.
