Memorable experience on Perhentian Island

If you want to spend your time on a great island, then Perhentian Island is the answer. We have heard many stories about some great holiday on Perhentian Island. Anyway, again in this entry I would like to share with you some other stories.

“We took the bus from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Besut, which is the jump-off point for the Malaysia's Perhentian Islands. After a 30-minute speed boat ride, we arrived at the paradise that is Pulau Perhentian Besar.

We spent 4 gorgeous days on the Perhentian Island It was just like a holiday within a holiday!! A lot of Westerners, from all over, come here! Jackie took an open water diving course and qualified on 1st April. During our dives, we saw the Sugar Wreck and lots of beautiful marine life: rays, angel fish, butterfly fish, triggers, nudibranches, wrasse, puffer fish, gobies, shrimps & crabs and two enormous cobia! We also took a boat over to the fishing village on the island of Kecil and had a wander around. Behind the modern facade by the shore, we found the residential tin shaks. There were also heaps of goats roaming free everywhere (chewing on anything they could find!). We even saw a tiny baby monkey in one of the back yards!
We were so sad to leave the Perhentian Islands... It was idyllic but we are excited to be on the move again.”

“Pulau Perhentian, these Islands without doubt are the nicest I have ever seen. There are 2 Islands 35 kilometers off the coast. There was quite a shaky boat ride to get here but it was certainly worth it!!

Once we arrived at Pulau Perhentian we dumped our stuff and the last 3-4 days have just flown by. On the 1st day we just went to bed as soon as we got there as we had virtually no sleep in the traveling freezer. We awoke at lunch to meet our hosts Zanny, Yee and Ron. These three guys seemed to have the best life imaginable. Zanny bought some land years ago and turned it into a booming small business. He invested the equivalent of 100k and now in is worth 500k! He has his 2 friends working for him and i would imagine in peak season they would be rushed of there feat but as we are out of prime season and not too far away from monsoon season people seemed a bit afraid to go to the island.

We went out on a speed boat to 5 destinations. All the names escape me but there was Blue Lagoon, Shark Point, Turtle bay and 2 others. The 1st stop i jumped out with my snorkel and flippers and there was nothing there until a guy threw a few pieces of bread at me. Within about 1 second i was engulfed by fish. There was so many going above me, underneath me etc etc that I kept bashing them when i moved. It was like a rainbow of different colours - absolutely amazing!

The other 4 stops included a massive turtle which was probably 3 meters diameter, very impressive. Also a few sharks and a lot of varieties of fish and coral. A brilliant experience which i thought was a bit pricey - the most expensive thing we have done anyway. Now i think about it was the equivalent of 7 pounds 50 - things really are cheap around here!”
