Children as well as adults are sure to have great time swimming among the wonders or marine life, including, of course, the local turtles. Diving and snorkeling equipment is available for rent at the Resort.

This is what I've read from this site:
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Malaysia/Negeri_Terengganu

Basically, the island will start opening end of monsoon season which is early March and will be closed at the beginning of monsoon which is around November. The best time for snorkeling is between April and September. As for diving, the visibility will be at its best between April and August. However, both snorkeling and diving are available from March to September. Most dive center will close early or mid October and snorkeling will not be advisable either due to the fairly rough seas. Peak season will be around July and August when the beach will be most crowded.

So to everyone, plan your holiday well. They have a lot of dishes to choose from though, and serve alcohol. Their mangoshake was absolutely fantastic. We tried eating at other places on the island, but quickly came back to eat at the Tuna Bay restaurant for the rest of our trip.

They have wireless Internet, although you have to pay 2$/1,75 euro for half an hour, but nice if you want to keep in touch with family and friends. The staff is very friendly, know english and is always willing to help. You aren't spoonfed with service though, so don't expect the 5 star luxury treatment - you won't find it anywhere on the island.

The seaview chalet, which is placed litteraly on the beach, is clean, airconditioned, has a safe deposit box, 24 hour electricity and hot shower (you don't need it). A small fridge would have been nice though. After spending 12 days there and after having visited every single spot on the west side of the island, we found that Tuna Bay was the right and best choice for us. The corals and variety of fishes you experience when walking 5 meters/15 feet into the crystalclear water are amongst the best on the island. Not as vivid as fx the Red Sea in Egypt though, but highly satisfactory.

The island: We went on basically every snorkling trip there is. A guy who called himself "Dollar" took us around (contrary to his name he is not greedy - one day he took us for free to Shark Point). Besides the corals at Tuna Bay we recommend the Rawa Island trip and the snorkeling trip to the lighthouse located at the west side of Kecil. The beach at Perhentian Island Resort has turtles (small and big) which come there to feed. You need to put on your snorkling gear and swim out about 30 meters/90 feet. The are usually found at the bottom (3-4 meters), but they swim up to breathe every 10 minutes or so, so they are easily spotted from the beach. Swimming amongst them and touching them (gently) was an amazing experience.

Jungle trekking was also fun. There are two main paths on the island. One from the southtip of the island (a 10 minute walk from Tuna Bay) leading to Flora Bay. And one leadning from Flora Bay to Perhentian Island Resort (20 minute walk back to Tuna Bay). We saw monkeys climbing and eating in the trees, giant lizards and other animals. You don't have to be athletic to follow the paths, but do mind your step, and dont forget mosquito repellant. We also rented a kayak and sailed to Turtle Beach where we saw baby turtles being taken care of by the locals. Right next to Turtle Beach we found our own private beach (the island has lots of them) where we spent a day sunbathing with no one around. We were a bit worried about the weather before we took of to the Perhentians. The forecast promised rain, rain and nothing but (over the mainlands). But not to worry. Since the Perhentians are islands localted in the very humid tropics near the equator, it never rains for long periods of time during high/dry season, and usually only at night. We experienced the first rain after about a week - a minor tropical storm with thunder and lightning raging over the sea (not the island itself) which lasted a couple of hours. It was a sight to behold.

We loved our stay at the Perhentians and especially at Tuna Bay. We had a hasslefree honeymoon . The weather was mostly fantastic, people were friendly, the local prices were low (about 3$/2,5 euro for main dishes; 0,75 cent/0,5 euro for a can of soda) and the snorkeling was great. If the place isn't infected with massturism during the next decade or so, we would definitely like to come back.

A decent resort on a beautiful island

Source: http://www.tripadvisor.com

Pulau Perhentian Besar: Perhentian Tuna Bay Island Resort: "a decent resort on a beautiful island"

We stayed at the resort for 3 nights on its full-board package in mid September. We had a good time on this peaceful island. Our rooms were basic & clean; air-con was powerful. Staff were helpful; they quickly fixed our problems with the shower & the safety box in a minute. Package food was decent Asian dishes; we liked the Chinese soup provided. The prices of its food and drinks on its menu were reasonable. The house reef was fantastic for snorkeling. Water was clear and there was an amazing variety of beautiful reef fish & coral. We also had great fun in the 2 snorkeling trips arranged by the resort. We were brought to different spots / bays where we could see turtles and stingray. It's also easy to get water taxis to different beaches around the island. We got the resort to arrange a water taxi to the beach at Perhentian Island Resort for swimming at RM12 per person per round trip; another enjoyable experience.

We like this resort and we want to go back next summer.

Perhentian Tuna Bay Island Resort

This is what I've read from this site:
www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review

The tunabay resort is perfect. We went by bus from Phuket spend a night in Sungai Kolok (the border is closed for the night) on the border, cross the next morning and went by taxi to Kuala Besut to get on a ferry. They are leaving around 10.00 am and in the 2 in the afternoon. All in all makes it about one-and-half day travel.Don’t forget to add one hour in Malaysia to thai-time!!! – Else you easily miss the boats. Around the pier you find different stores selling the tickets and giving you information’s about the “resorts”. Make your choice, because the ferry brings you straight to the beach you want to. Many restaurants are found at the pier.

What's really great:
Two islands:
Perhentian Kecil is the small one, Perhentian Besar the big. I recommend to stay on the big! Flora Bay is a backpacker beach with different categories of bungalow, the more luxury places are at the west side of P.-Besar.

THINGS TO DO: Explore the jungle on your own! (Don’t forget to take drinking water with you) there lots of trails! Find exotic animals: ants in the size up to 3 centimeter, bats small as colibri birds and scary big warans hiding in the bushes, between the rocks on the beaches and even under water.

Snorkelling: watch sea turtles along the west side bays. Scuba diving: at least 30 spots around the two islands!!! boat dives only! about 10 – 15 EUR per dive!Relaxing, Relaxing, Relaxing … in a hammock under a palm tree.

Please respect that the state is quite strict muslim. Some stores sell beer to the visitors. The villagers are very friendly.
